Problem Statements

With the growing demand for innovative solutions to address the challenges in energy and sustainability, these topics encourage you to harness AI technologies to develop groundbreaking and impactful solutions. Below are the topics closed related within the energy sector and sustainable practices, offering an opportunity to make a real-world difference:

Production

GenAI-Driven Diagnostic Assistant for Oil & Gas Production Analysis

This project aims to leverage GenAI to accelerate oil & gas production diagnostics through a Natural Language Interface tailored for engineers. By combining LLMs with structured and unstructured data fusion, it enables rapid, reproducible diagnostics and anomaly detection. The GenAI-Driven Diagnostic Assistant supports rapid prototyping for field analysis, integrates seamlessly with existing workflows, and is designed to be expandable and customizable for evolving operational needs. Participants will build solutions to achieve this.

Drilling

Optimizing Drilling Operations with GenAI

This project aims to leverage GenAI to streamline drilling operation optimization by automating the end-to-end process—from unstructured drilling reports to actionable insights and recommended action plans. Using large language models (LLMs), the solution will extract relevant information from daily drilling reports, perform data cleansing and transformation, and integrate structured operational data for enhanced context. Participants will develop interactive dashboards to visualize key drilling metrics, detect anomalies or inefficiencies, and generate prescriptive recommendations.

Sustainability

Gen-AI for Carbon Futures: Smart CCS Planning & Story Telling

The project designs a Gen-AI system to match CCS projects with optimal emission sources based on location, capacity, and status, using LLM + RAG to contextualize projects and suggest integration opportunities. The participates can create a generative AI storytelling tool that narrates the environmental and economic impact of CCS projects in the style of policy briefs of public outreach materials, allowing users to explore “What if” scenarios (e.g. “What if project x scales by 50%?”).
